What is the Knights of the York Grand Cross of Honour KYGCH?
The Knights of the York Grand Cross of Honour KYGCH represents the highest recognition within the Knights of the York Cross of Honour, Prince Hall Affiliated. This distinction is reserved for those Companions and Sir Knights whose service to York Rite Masonry has been exceptional in scope, sustained in duration, and exemplary in character.
The KYGCH is neither a degree nor an honor that may be sought. It is a recognition bestowed, reflecting a lifetime pattern of faithful leadership, disciplined service, and unwavering devotion to the York Rite.
Meaning of the KYGCH Distinction
The Knights York Grand Cross of Honour signifies the culmination of distinguished York Rite service at the highest levels of governance and leadership. Those so recognized have demonstrated that true Masonic distinction is earned through responsibility borne faithfully, authority exercised with humility, and service rendered for the good of the Craft rather than personal elevation.
The KYGCH acknowledges not a single office or moment, but a proven record of stewardship that has strengthened York Rite Masonry through example, stability, and principled leadership.
Eligibility and Required Service for Bestowal
In order to be eligible for bestowal as a Knight of the York Grand Cross of Honour Prince Hall Affiliated, an individual must have been duly elected, installed, and have faithfully served a minimum of twelve months in one of the following Grand York Rite offices within a recognized Prince Hall Affiliated jurisdiction:
• Most Worshipful Grand Master of a Prince Hall Grand Lodge
• Most Excellent Grand High Priest of a Prince Hall Grand Chapter of Holy Royal Arch Masons
• Most Illustrious Grand Thrice Illustrious Master of a Prince Hall Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters
• Most Eminent Grand Commander of a Prince Hall Grand Commandery of Knights Templar
This prerequisite reflects the Order’s standard that the KYGCH is reserved for those who have borne the highest responsibilities of York Rite leadership and demonstrated sustained fidelity in the execution of those duties.
Standard for KYGCH Prince Hall Affiliated Membership
Beyond holding qualifying Grand office, selection to the KYGCH is governed by rigorous standards, including:
• Proven and sustained service to York Rite Masonry
• Demonstrated leadership across York Rite bodies
• Exemplary Masonic character, fidelity, and discipline
• A record of service that advances the Rite rather than personal distinction
• Proper selection and approval through established Masonic authority
Membership in the KYGCH reflects the collective judgment of the Order regarding a Knight’s lifelong commitment to excellence and service.
Recognition as a Knight of the York Grand Cross of Honour affirms both past achievement and future obligation. Those bestowed this distinction are called to continue serving as mentors, exemplars, and guardians of York Rite principles.
Within the KYGCH, honor is not an endpoint, but a responsibility carried forward with humility, discipline, and purpose
Priory Motto
“Honor Proven by Service, Excellence Earned Through Duty.”
